What mean ye by these stones

That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

Stones, pieces of rock able to endure the test of time, these stones were set up as a memorial to the mighty works of Jehovah God, that all may know he is the Lord. The children of Israel being constantly in an on again, off again relationship with their God could look back to this day and remember by physical sight what had been done. Because of their obedience they were able to tell their children about the passing of the Jordan, for without their obedience I believe that they would have left that very spot and never gave God the glory. The rocks each picked up by a man out of the twelve tribes were set up in my opinion that not just one group of people could talk about it (i.e. the priests), but that every tribe should remember it and pass it down through the generations.

Christ told Peter "Upon this rock, I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" Can we stand as firm as Peter in our faith as a memorial to the greatness of God in heaven who sent His Son to die for our sins? Remember our lives before salvation were a stony situation, always stumbling around in sin. Then as we called upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins, he delivered us out of the gross darkness that kept us fumbling around. We were able to start our christian walk and great things were done in our lives. Let us not forget to look back on moments in our lives and tell our children of the things God did for us, as was the case with the children of Israel being given occasion by their parents "what mean ye by these stones"
