Jos 12:1 Now these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other side Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the river Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the plain on the east: Jos 12:7 And these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel smote on this side Jordan on the west, from Baalgad in the valley of Lebanon even unto the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir; which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions;
Now we see here friends, that the Lord is a God of order. We look at this chapter and say brother, so what of the names of all these folks. Well it just so happens that our Lord took time out to mention them so I believe it is our duty to understand why. If we look at this more closely we will notice that the list started at Jericho, and then worked it's way to the final conquest. These kings were many in number in just a small portion of the world. If the land flowing with milk and honey could support this many nations then imagine what it must be like to just have inherited this area? Glory to God, as he not only gave the Israelites some dirt, he gave them everything they needed to be prosperous, and to live. As I read through, some of these places jump out at you, the kings were in cities that are later mentioned in the Bible, take Kedesh for example, it was made into one of the Levitical cities of refuge. Not only does God list these in order, but he lists every kings name thirty one to be exact. They are known unto God, just as we are known unto Him. Whether we live for Him, or against Him it is irrefutable that He knows us. As the God in heaven upon His throne He has established all things for His glory. What a God I would serve if He didn't know me. At one point in my life I didn't know Him, but since the Lord is gracious and long suffering He knew me enough to send His very Son Jesus to die for the remission, and atonement of my sins, that I might have fellowship again. Not only do we see that the Lord knows us, but He provides for us. Look at the terrain that was taken in these conquests. There were the valleys, the rivers and the mountains. The valleys good enough the grow the best of crops, the rivers to feed these areas with refreshing waters, and the mountains a natural barrier and protectant to the people. The same goes for us today as we rush about in our jobs and our lives to chase after the things of this world, what a shame if we could only learn how to be content with what God has provided us. Mat 6:25-32 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. Has it not been proven time and again starting with the children in Israel, until today in present times, have faith in God. Hopefully we have all seen that God knows us and is willing that none should perish, but all come unto repentance. If it were not for God and His mercy and grace, these pieces of history would never had made it this far for us to understand Him more clearly.
